![]() ![]() DAVINA CLAIRE (18) I don't even know where to start when it comes to telling people about myself. I'm a witch. I'm from New Orleans. I'd love to be asked out on a real date with you, but for the record? I'm here because I want something and I'm willing to hold hands to get it. You should know that. If you're still reading, how about two truths and a lie? Or we could just meet up and chat like normal people. |

CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Davina Claire
CANON: The Originals
AGE: 17? | aged up to 18 ( she was 16 during Season 1, I plan on taking her near the end of Season 2. I'm assuming she's had a birthday in that time- she at least looks older. )Davina was young and naive once. She believed blindly in the people she trusted ( i.e. her parents, her coven, the ancestors ) and did not question them, not even when she was chosen as a Harvest Witch and told she would be sacrificed. She was also told she and three other young witches would be brought back from the dead and it would be an honor. She was not informed that it would be a violent death and for that reason, she turned against the witches when the three other girls were sacrificed in front of her and the ritual was interrupted by the vampires.CANON POINT: Season 2, Episode 21
In her time away from her coven ( siding with the vampires ) she came to learn that as the only living Harvest Witch ( and an inheritor of all of their powers ), everyone wanted something from her and they weren't always forthcoming about it. Davina understands the importance of informed consent because she's had nothing but actions and consequences around her. She's also been used by enemies and allies that never gave her a real choice, aside from do this or you die, or someone you love will die.
I believe that her eventual acceptance of her fate at the tail end of Season One displays her ability to give informed consent. Her powerful magic that is supposed to be shared throughout her coven is too much for her to handle and it begins to manifest in dangerous ways ( earthquakes, extreme wind, storms, fire ) and the only way to stop New Orleans from being burned to the ground is for Davina to sacrifice herself as was intended. If she continues to live, everyone she cares about may die and the other Harvest girls will never be resurrected. She makes the decision and accepts that it may mean a permanent death, regardless of the fact that she doesn't want to die.
Emotional maturity comes with experience and honestly, there's still quite a lot that Davina has yet to live and see for herself - normal things. Going on dates, doing whatever it is that girls her age are supposed to be doing, making friends that aren't bonding over death. She's hardened by the harsh hand she's been dealt in life and she's had to deal with everyone she loves betraying her, but she's mature enough to forgive people that love her and make the effort, like Marcel. She's even capable of working with enemies for the greater good when the time calls for it. She has the wisdom that some adults never learn.
Aging her up to 18 will certainly change her appearance a little but not by too much. She's more or less the adult she's going to become already - headstrong, brave, scared, kind, vengeful - but I think that Eudio would be good for her in the sense of putting her at ease and showing her that not everyone is out for themselves, and not every city is full of death.
BACKGROUND: davina claire | the originals
INCENTIVE: A younger version of Davina would instantly ask for a way to kill Klaus Mikaelson without also destroying everyone in his sire line. That is still extremely important to her and it isn't likely that he can ever be redeemed enough in her eyes to make her overlook revenge, but there's something else she wants more. She wants to bring Kol Mikaelson back from the dead. She would either ask for a way to complete her spell, the power to do it herself, or to prevent him from being hexed in the first place.
FIT: Davina doesn't have a problem with being physically affectionate. She's a big fan of hugs, hand-holding, dancing, and kissing if it's with the right person. She certainly isn't promiscious by any means and considering the world she comes from, it'd take a bit of time to jump right in and trust people. But she'd be open to it, or she'd try to be more open to it anyway since bringing Kol back is more important than what happens to her.
I do think that being in Eudio would be good for her. There are vampires, werewolves and witches in this city, but they aren't at war. They're living peacefully. Seeing that with her own eyes and making connections with people could help her grow as a person since I believe a part of Davina struggles with what she means to people versus what her magic allows her to do for people when they need the impossible accomplished.
CONSENT: Davina knows how important consent is because she's had choices made for her without having the full truth disclosed to her. She was lied to when it came to the Harvest Ritual and whether or not she could have agreed to the real terms is irrelevant because she was never informed.
Another instance when she was manipulated was by the vampire that saved her from being sacrificed in said ritual. He kept Davina hidden away in an attic, more or less unable to leave. At first it was to keep her safe but he came to like that power and used Davina to keep it by having her keep the witches from doing any magic, even after the last living elder of her coven was killed.
She knows what it is to not have a choice and she respects the choices other people make even if she doesn't respect them.
As a powerful witch, she has been backed into some pretty dark corners. She had to learn how to be as wicked as the people around her. Davina doesn't delight in hurting people, but when it comes to the people she loves, she won't hesitate in taking revenge. She has cast spells to make a vampire's blood boil, to incapacitate them, she has broken their necks ( akin to knocking them out in their universe because they heal ), she has poisoned them with her own blood and in one particular instance, she kept a vampire hunter as a prisoner under her command due to magic in a church for awhile.
She does not regret these things because in all instances, Davina feels she's justified in doing what she has to survive and to protect those she loves. She refuses to be pushed around after being manipulated so many times, and if that means giving the people who made her live in fear something to be afraid of, then ( in her world that meant ) so be it.
However, I believe that Davina will have no reason to use her magic for dark purposes in Eudio because of the laws of consent. If there isn't anyone around or allowed to hurt her, then she won't have any reason to go on the offense to defend herself. I think she's perfectly capable of following the rules set down by the representatives, if not for herself ( which she is ), then for Kol.
She is ultimately a kind girl that often puts her own needs and desires on the back burner in order to help those that ask it of her. Throughout the show, Davina stops what she's doing time and time again to do a locator spell or help with a plan the others have concocted, even going so far as to remove compulsions ( mind control ) from others so they themselves cannot be used. It's important to her that people make their own choices and that they're honest with her because after everything, she wants the relationships she builds with people to be real.
SAMPLES: ( NETWORK SAMPLES ) | 001 + 002When the representatives find her, she's bringing more flowers to a headstone with the name Kaleb Westphall carved into it. Kol, she thinks with a scowl. It should say Kol. He deserves a place to be remembered even if she's the only one who seems to notice he's gone at all. His siblings ( as predicted ) have all gone back on their flimsy promises of always and forever. It turns out that those words only apply to the Mikaelsons and it's an elite circle that not many are permitted into, even other family members; she knows that better than most, having seen it time and again, and having heard about it from both Marcel and Kol.
Everyone that swore to help her bring Kol back has fallen to distractions - Rebekah with the witch whose body she inhabits, Elijah with playing caretaker, Marcel with getting back into bed with the Originals, and Klaus with whatever it is Klaus does besides murdering people left and right ( protecting his daughter, apparently, with murder. )
And so, once again, Davina is on her own.
If she ever wants to see Kol alive again, she's going to have to get it done herself. Fine. So be it. At least she knows that she can count on herself. But is this really the only way to save Kol? Is becoming regent of the nine covens a good plan? The last thing she wants is to be involved with these people. They're as bad as vampires ( worse maybe ) because they pretend they aren't monsters. She left her coven for a reason, and it'd been a damn good one. She's so consumed by her own thoughts that she doesn't hear the footsteps behind her or the file being opened and peered at by the man that's invading a private moment.
"Davina Claire, is it?"
"Who the hell are you?" She whirls around in a heartbeat, palm out, ready to defend herself when she notices a folder in the man's hands instead of a weapon. Well, that's new.
"They warned me you'd be charming. I didn't realize how much."
"Answer the question," she snaps, not entirely ready to lower her guard.
"I'm no threat to you." He closes the folder, tucks it under one arm and looks around. "I've come to make you an offer. Hopefully, one you won't refuse."
The man, still nameless to her, turns to give her his full attention for the first time since interrupting her thought process.
"What makes you think I'd be interested? I don't even know your name, or how you learned mine." It's true that this city may as well be built on deals with strangers, but that doesn't mean she's eager to make one. "And no offense, but I've had enough of strange men creeping out of dark corners and promising me things."
"Because, loathe as I am to begin a sentence with that word, I'm here to give you an alternative choice to the path you're headed down. You could become regent and you could go on to accomplish a great many things, wondrous or horrific. You would very likely have the power to do both. That isn't for me to say."
She glares at him, objections and criticism already on the tip of her tongue.
"What if I told you, Davina, that you could save him and you wouldn't have to deal with the witches to do it?"
"I'd ask you what the catch was." It's impolite to scowl. Yeah, yeah, she knows. "Don't tell me there isn't one. What's in it for you?"
He smiles, amused by her paranoia for some reason. She doesn't know that he comes from a city with few reasons for behavior like hers, doesn't suspect for a second that he's endeared by being a representative that travels across the worlds and sees all the ugliness and beauty to behold. She thinks, plainly, that there are probably a few screws loose upstairs.
"I'm here on behalf of my people. They need you, and others like you, to willingly stay in our city and go about your life. You see, my home has a unique situation. Our energy is created by intimacy, particularly the kind shown in a physical nature. If you agreed, you'd need to make connections. Meet people, form friendships—"
"Hold on," she interjects. "Are you saying in order to save Kol, you want me to go around sleeping with people? You know, I thought you were crazy for walking in here uninvited and talking to me like we're old friends, but that right there seriously takes the cake."
She's shaking her head, climbing to her feet and dusting herself off.
"You're out of your mind if you think I'd take that over dealing with some psychotic, old witches." She knows what she's getting with them. Better the devil you know.
"If you let me finish, you'd know that physical intimacy could be as innocuous as holding hands, a considerate embrace, a supportive high five, pushing someone's hair out of their face when they're upset and they need you. Perhaps even staying warm together on a couch, should it come to that." He stares at Davina very pointedly here. "I'll remind you that you're the one that took it to the gutter and ran with it."
"So, let me get this straight. If I cuddle every person I meet, you'll help me bring my boyfriend back?" It doesn't take much with her, not really, to be convinced.
"Not me specifically, but yes, we'll give you the aid you need." He hesitates, feeling the need to give her one more clarification since she doesn't get many of those here in New Orleans. "For the record, every touch must be consensual for both parties in order for it to count. Any violation of that will be grounds for termination - of our contract and your residency in Eudio. It is a requirement for each one of our citizens."
"Done," she agrees with a small, careless shrug.
But she does care. She cares more about Kol than she cares about anyone. Marcel loves her and he'll never stop fighting for her. She loves him for that, but her happiness doesn't matter as much as her safety to him. And Josh is perfect, but he has his own problems. Kol's the only one that's been able to make her feel like she has nothing to apologize for, that has come through for her and been by her side. He tries to keep her safe without keeping her at a distance. Kol's also irrevocably proven that he will choose her when push comes to shove, regardless of his family or his alliances.
Davina thinks the least she can do is repay that favor. If it means she has to get cozy with people that aren't him, well, he's just going to have to understand that everything she's done has been for him once he's among the living again.
"Where do I sign?"
ANYTHING ELSE?
Davina is still a Harvest Witch in name but she no longer has the powers of the other three Harvest girls that were sacrificed in the ritual. When she died, those powers went to their ancestors / her coven's power source and were supposed to have made the entire coven stronger. When she was restructured she couldn't do magic for awhile out of fear of what the ancestors might do to her, but eventually, she began practicing again. I am fully ready to accept any sort of cap (or elimination) of her magic being accessed either at all, or without the consent of those she attempts to use it on.
If need be, we can basically disable "dark" magic. Nothing that would allow her to hurt others or break their consent, not that she would likely have to use those in Eudio to begin with.
I can build a peace or I can burn our enemies to the ground.
The question isn't whether or not I should be made regent. The question is what the hell would you do without me?
